The Northwest Alliance
of Churches Covenant
We, the
City/Region-wide church covenant this day to submit to the commandment of
Our Lord Jesus Christ as reflected in John 13:34-35 that we will be known by
our love one to another. "A new command I give to you: Love one
another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. All
men will know that you are my disciples if you love one another." (NIV)
We purpose
in our hearts to fulfill the call to celebrate the oneness of all believers
as expressed in Ephesians 4:1-6 by these actions:
We covenant:
|
To gather
together monthly (pastor and lay leaders) for times of prayer in order
that God will be the "director" of all we do, that we may edify one
another as well as to gain a sense of the Lord's direction for the
ministry of the Alliance. |
|
To meet,
either with the pastor and/or with a church representative on a quarterly
basis (Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall) or more if necessary, for the
express purpose of planning and promoting future opportunities for
evangelism recognizing that our diverse giftedness is an asset in
fulfilling the biblical mandate to make disciples regardless of our
differences in doctrine, style and organization. We will remain
centered on Jesus Christ who will lead us to overcome these differences
through serving, accepting, forgiving, supporting, loving and the building
up of each other in His name. |
|
To confer
with one another should members of church families within the Alliance
seek to enter into the fellowship of another member church. These
matters will be handled with a spirit of reconciliation and a will to
maintain the spiritual well being of such members as they make decisions
that impact the lives of those in the effected congregations. |
|
To build
the Kingdom of God by participating and encouraging our congregation to
participate in all of our common activities of evangelism. |
We, as
charter representatives of the Body of Christ, (Advent Christian Church -
Torrington, Bakerville Methodist Church - New Hartford, Calvary Baptist
Church - Torrington, Covenant Church -
Thomaston, Praise Christian
Fellowship - Barkhamsted, Torrington Foursquare Church - Torrington, and Vision New England) sign this covenant in
commitment to the articles above.
